The shallow water bite on Lake Tawakoni is officially ON. This trip was all about numbers and filling the cooler, and it delivered in a big way. Kelly and Doug put together a full 2-man limit of blue catfish with steady action from start to finish.
Conditions on the Water
Water temperatures have reached around 70 degrees, which is a key trigger for aggressive feeding behavior. Winds were light out of the south at 5–10 mph, and water clarity was good across the areas we fished. Most of the action took place in 10 feet of water or less, with some of the best bites coming in extremely shallow zones around 2 feet.
What Worked
Fresh bait made the difference. We focused on cut shad and perch, targeting shallow flats where baitfish were active. Mobility was key—when fish were located, the bite turned on quickly. The shallow pattern is strong right now, and fish are pushing up to feed.
Fishing Results
This was a numbers trip, and it produced exactly that. Kelly and Doug landed a 2-man limit of 50 blue catfish, all solid eater-sized fish. Action stayed consistent throughout the trip, with very little downtime between bites.
Back at the dock, the catch turned into five large bags of fresh catfish fillets, making for an excellent day both on the water and at the cleaning table.
